Andre Camus

Andre Rene Albert Camus was reunited with the love of his life and mother of their children, Helene Camus, on April 27, 2022.

He was born (May 4, 1944), raised, and married in Aix-en-Provence, France. After completing an apprenticeship and serving in the French military, he and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1964 with “two suitcases and $100 in my pocket.” He settled in Waukegan, Illinois and eventually opened Andre Camus Painting and Decorating. He and Helene had two children Marie-Helene (Richard Sonnentag) and Christian (Edie Arreguin). He was so proud and the happiest in the presence of his family. Known for his thick French accent, mustache, humor, and charm, his talents included storytelling, being life-of-the-party, and ballroom dancing. His interests at home were fishing, playing free online poker, and listening to music.

He is survived by his two children, grandchildren (Austin, Alexis, Sophie, and Preston (Claire Jensen)), and special friends and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his grandchild Aaron, his wife, his 11 siblings, his parents, and German Shepherds (Irka, King, and Smokey).

The family would like to thank Dr. David Slivnick, Dr. Michael Liptay, and the incredible nurses and staff at Lake Forest Hospital for their unbelievable care and kindness all these years.

The family held a private celebration of life and burial.
