Aura Barrientos

It is with great sadness we announce that Aura Barrientos, 69, passed away with her daughter Linda present on June 28th, 2026. 

Aura was welcomed into the world on January 20th, 1957, in Guatemala to Maria Lucila Monterroso and Tomas Valle. One of many siblings, Aura always stood out through her determination to assist others no matter the task and her determination to lend a helping hand wherever she could. This steadfastness to do right by others carried her well into her adulthood, when she would meet and marry her first husband, Carlos, and her later life when they were placing roots in Chicago after migrating from Guatemala. Together, Aura and Carlos had two beautiful children to whom she was a doting, loving mother, and raised alongside each other before eventually separating. Aura would then meet her current husband, Angel, to whom she was happily married for 20 years, would become a passionate and loving grandmother to her children's children, and would continue to lead a life devoted to kindness and aid that left her beloved by all who knew her.

Aura is survived by her loving husband, Angel Sanchez, her beloved children Linda (Yonatan) Guzman, Carlos Barrientos Jr. and his girlfriend Merlin, and Oscar, her darling grandchildren Natalie, Alexie, Savannah, Lailani, Nathan, Alliana, and Lailani Antonia, her precious great-granddaughter Yelena, her mother Maria Lucila Monterroso, her brothers David, Giovanni, Cesar, Oscar, Jorge, and Marcos, and her sisters Maria, Miriam, Lupe, and Marielena. 

Aura is preceded in death by her previous husband, Carlos Barrientos, father, Tomas Valle, and her brother Jose Emilio Valle. 

The funeral mass for Aura will be held at Saint Ita Catholic Church, 5500 N Broadway, Chicago, IL, 60640, from 2 PM - 3 PM on Saturday, July 11th, 2026.
