Brenda Oakes-Markus
November 23, 1949 — April 18, 2014
Brenda Joyce Oakes-Markus, age 64, of Roscoe, Illinois, formally of Bristol, Wisconsin and McHenry, Illinois, passed away at her home, after a long battle with cancer.
Brenda was born to the late Leslie and Leota "Honey" Oakes on November 23, 1949 at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. She was a 1968 graduate of Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who devoted her heart to her family and friends. Brenda was a dedicated, hard-working, loyal employee for more than twenty years at Intermatic Inc. in Spring Grove, Illinois. She spent another five years with Watson Pharmaceuticals in Gurnee, Illinois until her health declined, leaving her to take a leave of absence.
She is survived by her two loving children, ToniDawn Markus of Roscoe, Illinois and Brian (Michelle) Markus of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Skyler, Cayden, Andi Leslie and Emilee; one brother, Phil (Linda) Oakes of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters, Kathleen Kreis of Bristol, Wisconsin and Karen Stoneman of Henderson, Nevada. She also leaves many loved nieces and nephews.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Henry R. Markus in January 2014; maternal grandparents, Hensley and Miranda Howard; two uncles, Adli and Kenneth Howard; two aunts, Opal Walton and Lodema "Tiny" (Stephen) Rardin.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 1-3pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, Illinois with a memorial service following at 3pm. Pastor Brian Walter of Gurnee Community Church will officiate the services.
The family would like to express kindness to all the wonderful staff of JourneyCare Hospice for all the loving care they have given our mother, grandmother and sister. "Words alone are not enough to thank each of you for the loving care and compassion to all of us. We could not have asked for a more compassionate group of people. May God bless you all as you continue to care for people in need."
