Charles Franklin Bailey, 88, of Grayslake, IL passed away July 11, 2021. Charles was born on October 8, 1932, to Joseph S Bailey and Iler V Gurley in Marietta, Mississippi.
He graduated from Marietta High School in 1952. He worked on his parent’s farm for many years, later working in the automotive field. He married his love Barbara Ann Barker in 1960, relocating his new family to Zion, IL. Charles worked at American Motors in Kenosha as a supervisor retiring in 1980, and in his retirement as a property manager and handyman with Barbara for Century 21 Russ Gwaltney Real Estate from 1992 until 2012. He lived in Lindenhurst, IL from 2013 until 2021 when he moved to Grayslake, IL with his daughter-in-law Nancy until his passing.
Charles raised two stepsons, Jimmy Lee and Colus Wayne Barker, and sister-in-law Linda Carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; stepsons, Jim, and Wayne Barker; sister-in-law Linda Robertson; grandson, Jason Barker and his 2 brothers.
He is survived by grandsons Brandon (Jenny) Barker, Russ (Christy) Barker, Scott (Shelly) Barker; daughters-in-law Nancy (James) Barker and Pat (Wayne) Barker; granddaughter, Angela Sumrall, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and loving friends too numerous to list.
He was known to all as a quiet country gentleman and an extremely hard-working and thoughtful man. Up until just recently he was still insisting on holding the door open for all who were with him. He had many severe health issues, but never complained, never imposed, and never cooperated if one were to insist on helping him. He had a strong will, a humble heart, and a gentle soul. He was kind to everyone he ever knew or met. Charles was very loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd. Gurnee, IL on Saturday, July 24th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the memorial service which will begin at 11:10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you donate to your favorite charity or church in his honor.
