Chaurice Anjier Hackney was born January 25, 1986 to Elizabeth McGee and James B. Hackney, Jr. at Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. She attended Willowridge High School where she played French horn in the Mighty Eagle Band and graduated in 2004. She continued her education in Tempe, Arizona where she received an Associate's Degree in Audio Engineering & Music Production from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in 2005. At the time of her illness, she was pursuing her Bachelor's degree in Audio Production from the Art Institute of Houston.
Chaurice had an undeniable love of music. She played several instruments, produced
music for a number of local artists, and was even a rap lyricist. She wanted to know the ins and outs of the music industry and had the ultimate goal of becoming an Entertainment Industry Attorney for musicians, songwriters and producers.
Chaurice accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Windsor Village United Methodist Church. She was kind-hearted, thoughtful and never met a stranger. One day, she spotted a dog aimlessly roaming around a gas station. After growing concerned that the dog would starve, be injured or even worse, she decided to bring "Pup-Pup" home with her. With this in mind, it's no surprise that she worked as a Veterinary Tech Assistant at
Banfield Pet Hospital while pursuing her degree.
In November 2012, Chaurice was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) Grade IV at the age of 26 which required surgery to remove the tumor on her brain. In the months following, she endured chemotherapy and radiation, and handled it like a champ. Doctors gave her 6-9 months to live after her diagnosis, but God had the final say. She beat the odds by living almost five years longer than expected and never once complained or showed fear. As a result of the ongoing challenges she faced with this disease The Chaurice's Auntie Foundation was started in her honor to assist individuals affected by brain cancer and bring awareness to the disease.
Chaurice was preceded in death by grandmother, Orangie Lee McGee, and cousin, Dunyasha McGee. She leaves to mourn her loving and dedicated mother, Elizabeth McGee; father, James B. Hackney, Jr. (Janice); grandmother, Alberta Hackney; grandfathers, Arthur McGee and James B. Hackney, Sr.; godmothers, Rosetta Lawrence and Pamela Drew; sister, Joyah Hackney; aunts, Diann Dillard, Sheila Finley, and Beatrice McGee, uncle, Anthony McGee; her cousins (who were like brothers and sisters), James LeVar Dillard, Travia McGee, Yaschica McGee, Anitra McGee, Brandon Finley, Maurice Finley, Jr. and Marquitta McGee; K-9 daughter, Pup-Pup; and a host of other relatives & friends
