Dorothy Lamons Edmond Smith, 77, of Waukegan, Illinois passed away on September 19, 2015 at her home. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 10, 1938 in Tillery, North Carolina, Dorothy was the daughter of Ruben T. Edmond and Bettie Hill Edmond. A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Dorothy was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1956. She continued her studies in Business Administration at the College of Lake County and Columbia College of Missouri. As the wife of Navy veteran William Paul Smith Sr., she lived in various locations in the Midwest and East Coast. Dorothy also spent nearly four years on tour in Rota, Spain. Dorothy was employed at Johns Hopkins University Hospital, the Navy Exchange Command, and the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, where she retired as a property manager.
A 600 series bowler and mixed league champion, she participated in numerous tournaments throughout the United States and was a member of the WIBC. Dorothy enjoyed golf and was also a devoted member of the IPBOC(of)W Eureka Temple 1179 of Waukegan.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children, Keith (Clarice) Smith, Albert (Carla) Smith, Jeanine Shoemaker, and William Paul Smith, Jr. She will be terribly missed by her brother Levon Edmond, and her sisters Estelle Bussey and Shirley Stewart. Her adoring grandchildren are Jauna, John, Nathaniel, Terence, Rachel, Gabriel, Alana, Brandon, Kendra, Brianne, Sydney, Zoie, and Alexis, as well as seven beloved great grandchildren.
