Douglas A. Van Camp, 67, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 29, 2016 after a long battle with melanoma cancer. He was born February 4, 1949 in Rockford, IL. On August 17, 1974 in Downey, Iowa, Douglas married the love of his life, Ella Mae Bickford. They were sealed for time and all eternity on July 21, 1978 in the Washington, D.C. temple. Doug worked as an accountant and tax preparer. He was the college ping-pong and chess champion. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, gardening and reading war books and 10-year old magazines and newspapers. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 42 years, Ella M. Van Camp; mother, Mary Mennen Van Camp; 4 children, Brad (Dana Flanagan) Van Camp, Amy (Brent) Van Camp-Smith, Brian (Ashley Brown) Van Camp and Mike (Emily Sanchez) Van Camp; 1 sister, Karen Sue Van Camp; 16 grandchildren, Alan, Bennett, Delaney, Kenneth, Douglas, Kirsten, Allison, Cienna, MaryAnn, Jennifer, Jared, Kylie, Madison, Brynlee, Derek and Bryce; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, John Chester Van Camp. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 7-9pm at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11am with visitation from 10:00 am-10:30 am (meet at the church) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 411 O'Plaine Rd., Gurnee. Burial will follow at Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee. "

"Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and nurses who loving cared for Doug as he fought his courageous battle with cancer: Dr. Syed Ahmed and the staff at North Shore Oncology, Dr. Jon Richards and staff at Oncology Specialists, Dr. Joubin Khorsand and staff, Dr. Axel Joob and staff, doctors, nurses and staff at Lutheran General Hospital and Wound Care Center, Janet, R.N. from Northwestern Home Health Care, and all the wonderful nurses from Journey Care Hospice Services."

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ella Van Camp, 3524 Crescent Avenue, Gurnee, IL 60031 in loving memory of her husband.
