Edward Sehr, age 88, passed away on September 28, 2023. Beloved husband and best friend of the late Norma Lee Sehr, nee Doolittle. Dear stepfather of Sharon Moon and the late Wendell Wayne Weger and dearest former father-in-law of Theresa Weger. Proud grandfather of Jason Kingsland, Jessica Marie Weger, William Wayne Weger, and Melissa Ann (partner Alex Magnuson) Weger. Treasured great-grandfather of Chloe Rose Magnuson and the late Chelsea Marie Ann Weger. Cherished foster son of the late Max and Kay. Dear friend to many who will miss him dearly, including best friend and adoptive brother Glenn Florkow from his days in the Winnetka police force and friends from Gurnee Township Senior Center.
Edward was a proud Air Force veteran serving from 1951-1955 during the Korean War and attained the rank of sergeant. He always said his time in Korea was the coldest he had ever experienced in his life.
He then served with the Richmond, Illinois Police Department from June 1, 1973 - July 1, 1978. He then served in the Spring Grove Police Department from July 1, 1977 - May 1, 1985 where he rose through the ranks to become the Chief of Police form 1984-1985.
Edward was the longest serving police officer for the Winnetka Police, from August 11, 1969 - October 14, 2005. He also received the distinguished award of Police Officer of the Year in 1980.
Edward always said his biggest accomplishments of his life were being a police officer, finding and marrying his best friend Norma, and being a grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed watching the News, Bravo TV, and old movies. He had the biggest sweet tooth and enjoyed fast food whenever he could. His greatest joy was spending time with his great-granddaughter Chloe, his "little genius", and taking her trick-or-treating. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
