Elizabeth "Betty" A. Owsley

Elizabeth “Betty” Owsley, 87, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, in Libertyville, Illinois.

She was born on July 8, 1937, in Torrington, Connecticut, to Elizabeth and Matys Angelovich. After completing high school in Kent, CT, Betty attended St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford, CT. She met and married her first husband, the late Kenneth Beckley. In 1967, they moved to Libertyville, IL where she has resided for the past 58 years. In 1980, Betty married the late Harry Owsley.

For 12 years, Betty worked at Libertyville High School, where her warmth and positive energy left a lasting impression on students and colleagues alike.

Family was central to Elizabeth’s life. She is lovingly remembered by her four children: Michael Beckley, Patricia (Ron) Maynard, Richard (Nhu) Beckley, and Matthew (Meg) Beckley, two stepchildren; Karen Castillo and Michael (Brandy) Owsley, her grandchildren; Alexis, Kristen, Jennifer, Brian, Joey, Natalie, Tyler, Madi, step grandchildren; Spencer, Audrey, Chelsea and Noah and great grandchildren; Remington, Owen, Reese, Teagan, Luke and Rani. Betty lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew her.

Outside of work and family life, Elizabeth found joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid bridge player who cherished time spent around the card table with friends. Her love for gardening—both vegetables and flowers—reflected her nurturing spirit. Evenings shared over wine with family, friends and neighbors were among her favorite moments.

Betty’s upbeat outlook and caring heart, along with her laughter and giggles, will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.

Friends and family will meet for visitation on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 9:30AM-10:30AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Avenue, Libertyville, IL. The funeral mass will begin at 10:30AM. Committal service to follow at Warren Cemetery and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elizabeth’s name to the American Heart Association.
