George Carlton Lawrence, 87, of Gurnee, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2025.

Born June 7, 1938, in Grayslake, IL. George was the son of Evan and Bernice Lawrence. He grew up in Grayslake and graduated from Warren High School in Gurnee, IL. George and his wife Doris have lived in Gurnee for 37 years. He went on to build a life centered around hard work, servant leadership, and family. For over 60 years, George was partner and eventually became owner of Bertrand Bowling Lanes in Waukegan. He was also passionate about bowling and getting others involved with the sport. During his tenure at Bertrand Lanes, he hosted many Pro Bowl (PBA) tournaments and bowlathons. In May 1999, he was the 23rd inductee in the Lake County Bowling Association Hall of Fame.

To recognize his years of service and impact on the Community, the City of Waukegan presented George with the Extra Mile for Waukegan Award in June 2023. He was a member of the Waukegan Exchange Club, where he held various roles, including President, and received the Book of Golden Deeds award. He was also a member of the Waukegan Moose Lodge #706 and the Waukegan Elks Lodge #702. George was also on the Board of Directors for the Family Service Agency of Northern Lake County.

George was known for his tremendous work ethic, kindness, and willingness to help others. He supported many civic organizations in the community, and coordinated fundraising events, including pancake days, silent auctions, casino nights, parades, and a mystery theater. For over 20 years, he enjoyed regularly vacationing in Kauai, where many wonderful family memories and friendships were made.

George is survived by his wife, Doris, her daughter, his three children, and seven grandchildren with a great-grandchild on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents (Evan and Bernice) and siblings (Ray, Richard, and Margaret), Doris’ son and has three surviving siblings (Trudy, Evan “Bud”, and Bob).

A visitation will be held on August 21, 2025, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL with memorial service that will begin at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or to the Waukegan High School bowling program by sending a check to the Waukegan Athletics Bowling Team, attention: Colette Erbach, Athletic Director, 2325 Brookside Avenue, Waukegan, IL 60085.

George will be remembered for his love for family, the kindness he showed to those around him, and the lasting impact he left on everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten!
