Gregory F. Okasinski, 72 of Wadsworth, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at his home.
He was born on October 13, 1946 to the late Francis and Irene (Rakowski) Okasinski in Detroit, MI. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. On August 12, 1967 he married Christine Olszewski in Detroit, MI. Greg graduated from Michigan State University with a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Public Health. He worked at Abbott Laboratories for over 20 years and was a Volwiler Research Fellow. Greg was an active volunteer with ElderCARE and enjoyed the outdoors, reading, and cooking, but his greatest love was spending time with family.
Greg is survived by his wife, Christine, his children; Kimberly (Tim) Stanard, Geoffrey Okasinski, Jennifer (Tim) Mortensen, and Samantha Okasinski, his grandchildren; Jack, Kate, Matthew, Luke, and Eleanor, and his brother, Jim (Linda) Okasinski. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church located at 15000 Wadsworth Rd. Wadsworth, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Father James Merold will officiate.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Greg’s name to Culinary Care. Culinary Care is a nonprofit organization bringing the nourishment of a meal, care, and joy to cancer patients and their families. Donations may be made to https://culinarycare.org/donate/.
Burial will be at Warren Cemetery.
