James Holst

James Wesley Holst, 87, of Gurnee, passed away Feb. 17, 2017 at home. He was born Feb. 19, 1929 in Waukegan. Jim graduated from Warren Township High School in 1946, and in 1947 became a member of IBEW L. U. 150 as an electrician. On April 14, 1956 in Kenosha, WI, Jim married the love of his life, Marion C. Scholler. He was a US Army Veteran from Feb. 1951 to Jan. 1953, serving in the Korean War, US Army 2nd Infantry Company K, and a member of the Honor Guard. Jim was proud of his Danish Heritage, enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes, hunting, gardening, and especially taking care of his fruit trees. He was a member of the Gurnee American Legion Post 771, the Swedish Glee Club, and was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sports activites. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marion C. Holst; children, Brock (Julie) Holst, Jane (Jim) Johann, Mark (Deb) Holst and Tim (Krista) Holst; grandchildren, Becca, Trey, Alyssa (Adam), Codi, Kyle, Lindsay (Brenden), Garret, Elaina, Kaitlin and Leah; brothers, Ray (Diane) Holst, John Holst; Chris (Diane) Holst, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Dorothea (Rasmussen) Holst, and brother, Tom Holst. Visitation is Wed., Feb. 22, 2017 from 4-7pm at WARREN FUNERAL HOME, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. Memorial services are Wed., Feb. 22, 2017 at 7pm at the funeral home. Interment is private at Warren Cemetery & Mausoleum, Gurnee. Memorial donations may be made to the Gurnee American Legion Post 771.
