James Painter Sr

December 19, 1920 — May 13, 2014

James M. Painter, Sr. of Gurnee, passed away from this earthly existence to a new and wonderful life in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early evening of May 13, 2014 at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Beach Park.
Jim was born December 19, 1920 in Noble, Illinois and married the love of his life on April 1, 1944 after two weeks of knowing her. Jim was a proud and faithful member of York House United Methodist Church, a 20 year veteran of the US Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer in 1960. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor having served on the USS Idaho, Trenton, Barton, John S. McCain, Newman K. Perry, and Wyandotte. After retiring from the Navy, he moved to Lake County to work at the Navy Electronics Supply Office in Great Lakes. When Jim retired from there, he worked another 20 years as head of maintenance at Gurnee Grade School. He was an active member of Gideons International and loved golf, bowling, volleyball, gardening (sharing his produce), fixing things, helping others and had a strong devotion to God, family and friends. Jim is survived by his children, James M. (Ruth) Painter, Jr. of Summerland Key, FL and Jane (Tim) Tiernan of Beach Park, IL; sisters, Lela Mae (Ralph) Titus of Sac City, IA and Melva Mosher of Rinard, IA; grandchildren, Stacey (Lewis) Lux, Amy Poli, Scott McCormick, Chrissy and Jimmy Painter; step- great granddaughter, Molly McCormick; step-great great grandchildren, Christian and John. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Bessie Painter; beloved wife of 62 years, June Painter; daughter, Joyce McCormick and three brothers Raymond, Richard & TJ Painter.

Friends visit with the family on Monday, May 19, 2014 from 10-11am with funeral services with full military honors at 11am at WARREN FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Miguel Nieves officiating. Entombment will follow at Warren Cemetery, Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, Gurnee.
