James Monroe Qualls, Jr.

James (Jim), 75 of Zion, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, January 04, 2023 at Vista East Hospital.

He was born on October 24, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to James M. Qualls Sr. and Jean Ilene Qualls. On January 10, 1967,  James M. Qualls Jr. married the love of his life, Clarice Victoria Qualls.

In 1966, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and spent 19 years as a radioman. He was proud to serve his country through numerous stateside and overseas assignments. After his military retirement in 1985, he also worked in the IT department at Great Lakes Naval Base until his final retirement. Jim was an avid golfer and looked forward to golfing and socializing with his Thursday summer golf league. Jim enjoyed spending time on the course with his son Jimmy whenever the chance was available.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, Clare, Jim is survived by his sister Florence Elizabeth Martin of Knox, IN; 3 children, Suzanne Clemons of Portage, IN, Natalie (Steve) Jones of Winthrop Harbor, IL, James (Jennifer) Qualls III of Beach Park, IL; 8 grandchildren, Jeramy Qualls (Laura), Jessica Hackenyos, William Hackenyos, Trayvion Barber, Jarryn (fiancé Emmaly) Barber, Brittany Molleda (Shazay), James Qualls IV (Gloria), Victoria Qualls; 2 great-grandchildren, Oliva Hawkins, Carson Barber; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Joseph Qualls, Lonnie Victor, a sister Carol Amanda Fletcher.

Visitation will be Monday, January 9th from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N Cemetery Rd. (located on the northside of the intersection of Tri-State Parkway and Cemetery Rd.), Gurnee, IL  60031.  The Funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, also at the funeral home.
