John Edward May

John Edward May, 83, passed into the arms of our Lord on August 29, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years Leora Lee May nee Patrick; his children John Edward May Jr., Erica (Tiram Farmer) May, Carlton (Phyllis) Patrick, Fred (Dana) Bell III, and Cassandra Bell; his grandchildren Emani Laterra Farmer, Jasmyne Madison Farmer, Carlton Pierr’e Patrick, Porsha Patrick, Sylvester Callahan, Joshua Callahan, Ay’sha Callahan, Justyn McKissick, Kyle Banks, Kierra Banks, and Mahogany Banks; his sister; and a host of great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory many relatives and friends who will miss him deeply.

He joins in Heaven his parents Eddie May and Fannie Harris and his brother.

John moved from Alabama to Chicago and finally settled in Waukegan with his wife Leora to raise his children and watch his grandchildren grow up. He was incredibly helpful and Leora remembers that when his children were born, he was right there beside her. He enjoyed fishing and making memories with his loved ones while reeling up catfish and bluegills. He also enjoyed quiet moments and watching old westerns. Before he began working in construction, John worked as a mechanic for 5 or so years and the joy of cars stayed with him. He also enjoyed buying lottery tickets, hoping for a big win to help his family thrive.

Friends and family will meet for visitation on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 10AM-12PM at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL. The funeral service will begin at 12PM, followed by entombment at Warren Cemetery and Mausoleum.
