In Loving Memory of Jose Aviles

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jose Aviles, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who left this world on July 29, 2025 at the age of 82.

Jose was a man who found joy in the simplest yet most meaningful parts of life. Known for his gift of conversation, he could strike up a heartfelt chat with anyone, leaving them with a smile, a story, or a lesson to carry away. He never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t spoken to yet.

A true lover of the earth, Jose took great pride in planting trees and nurturing his garden. He often spoke lovingly of the trees he planted and flowers he grew, seeing in them not just shade and beauty, but symbols of growth, legacy, and hope for future generations.

Cars were another of his passions, whether admiring their design, talking about their mechanics, or recalling the thrill of James Bond films that fueled his appreciation for them. Around the house, he was always busy, finding projects to tackle and pouring his heart into making his home a warm and welcoming place for family and friends.

Jose had an endless collection of stories from his remarkable life, and he shared them with an enthusiasm that captivated listeners of all ages. Perhaps his greatest joy came from time spent with his great-grandchildren, whose laughter and energy brought him immeasurable happiness.

Jose’s other passion was collecting coins and uncovering the meaning around the year and value with endless searches. He also loved to get his lotto every day with the hope for one day winning big and buying enough land for each of his kids and grandchildren to build on.

His heart always belonged to Puerto Rico. He cherished its beauty, culture, and traditions, carrying its spirit with him wherever he went. Whether through his stories, his cooking, or his music, he kept Puerto Rico alive in his home and passed that love on to his family. Though his roots began there, his love and influence spread far beyond, living on in the trees he planted, the stories he told, and the countless lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and generosity.

Above all, Jose was a devoted husband. His love and loyalty to Betty were unwavering, and together they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. His marriage was a shining example of commitment, partnership, and deep, abiding love.

He is survived by his beloved wife Betty; children Martha Aviles, Elizabeth (Santos) Villa, Hilda Flores, Marisol (James) Izquierdo; grandchildren Yamari (Anthony) Aviles-Evans, Alyssa (Ignacio) Izquierdo-Flores, Jialexy Izquierdo, Santos Jose Villa, Michael Izquierdo, Jazmin Flores, and Isabelle Flores; great-grandchildren Anthony Evans, Zariyah Flores, Lucelia Evans, and Iyla Flores; siblings Pilar Aviles, Josefa Aviles, and Obdulio Torres; and a multitude of family and friends who will miss him deeply.

He joins in heaven his parents Valentin Aviles and Dolores Robles; siblings Antonio Aviles, Miguel Aviles, and Rafael Aviles; son in law Guillermo Flores, and Mother in law Hilda (Mamita) Mendoza.
