Kalvin Douglas “Doug” Hooper, 65 of Lake Villa, IL (formally of North Chicago) passed away on Saturday, March 26th, 2022. Kalvin was born in Greenville, South Carolina on July 12, 1956. He was the oldest child of Arland L. Hooper Sr and the late Mary E. Hooper.

Kalvin was a product of the North Chicago Public School system. He graduated from both Neal Jr High School and North Chicago Community High School in 1974. Kalvin was well liked by his classmates and built lifelong friendship bonds. Kalvin wrestled in high school and represented the Warhawks well! It was at NCCHS where he began honing mechanic skills in auto shop class. He performed automotive car repairs for many years that assisted his family members and friends.

After graduating high school, Kalvin joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as Lance Corporal, LCpl. in 1979.

In September of 1984, Kalvin married his high school sweetheart Karen Jacobs. They were blessed with two sons, Kameron Douglas, and Korbin Donell.

Kalvin was a people person and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He enjoyed many activities and hobbies, such as, marine aquarists, camping, chess, cooking, golfing, HO car racing, motorcycle riding, and watching sports. Kalvin was especially fond of his favorite football team The Pittsburgh Steelers!

In 1995, Kalvin began the most important activity of his life. He began studying the bible and was later baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on March 29th, 1997.

Kalvin was employed by several companies in Lake County, IL: Exxon Oil Company, Gillette Company, and North Shore Gas Company. Although Kalvin officially retired, he occasionally worked part-time jobs in the area.

He leaves behind his wife Karen Hooper of Louisville, KY; Two sons, Kameron Hooper of North Chicago, IL and Korbin Hooper of Chicago, IL; Father Arland L. Hooper Sr. of Gurnee, IL; Sister’s Marlene (Marlin) Williams of Dominica, West Indies; Amanda (Terry) Smith of Gurnee, IL; Zeretta (Mark) Phelps of North Chicago, IL. Half-sisters, Towana (Calvin) Garth of Waukegan and Laretia Wilson of North Chicago. Three brothers; Arland L. Hooper Jr. of North Chicago, IL; Darwin L. Hooper and Dorlan L. Hooper of Waukegan, IL.

Kalvin was preceded in death by his mother; Mary Elizabeth Hooper on July 5th, 2019.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, from 10 - 11 a.m. at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL 60031.  The memorial funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.  The service will also be available on Zoom Video Conferencing – Meeting ID: 82083159414, Passcode: 370958.
