Rebecca Medina Chapa

Waukegan

Rebecca (Medina) Chapa, age 82 of Waukegan, IL, left this earth on Sept 09, 2023 from the comfort of her home to be received in the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with a fully restored body and mind as the Lord escorted her to her heavenly mansion “dwelling place”. He removed every tear from her eyes, reassured her that death will be no more, and reaffirmed his promise that she will no longer experience mourning, nor crying, nor pain any longer as the former things have passed away.” Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents Ignacio Medina, Marta(Garza) Medina of Pharr, TX., brother and sister in-law Ignacio Garza Medina Jr and Mary Alice Medina of Zion. IL., and Lionel Medina of Pharr, TX. (Kenosha. WI.)  Rebecca was born in Waukegan, IL. on October the 4, 1940 to Ignacio Medina and Marta(Garza) Medina. She attended Catholic schools within the Waukegan school district and was a life-long resident of the city of Waukegan. Rebecca was a talented Latin-Style dancer and was often a participant of many Hispanic dance ensembles in the area as a youth. Rebecca, as a youth, was a member of Club Amistad, a Mexican youth organization that was selected to travel to Mexico visiting the highpoints of the country and meeting the President of Mexico as a result of good conduct, the ability to speak Spanish and exemplary scholastic record. Rebecca was selected as one of the mascots to represent the group. She enjoyed relaxing and viewing older classic movies as well as having an occasional lengthy conversation with a family member or friend. Above all else was her love, passion, and devotion to all who were blessed to call her Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Godmother, Aunt, Cousin, and friend. Rebecca was the epitome of a true servant to those she loved. The interests of her family came well before her own personal interests as demonstrated by her delicious cooking, unparalleled cleanliness, and the ability to make you know that you were loved by her playful demeanor, nurturing spirit, and strong embraces. Her love and faithfulness will be immeasurably missed.  Rebecca is survived by her husband of 65 years, Mauro Marti Chapa, Sister Lydia(Donald) Powers of Pharr, TX, Children; David(Tracy) Chapa of Kenosha, WI., Margarita (Thomas) Malewski of McHenry, IL., Ricardo(Katrina) Chapa of Caledonia, WI. Her Grandchildren; Joshua Lee Williams, Alexis Francine Chapa, Tommy Ryan Malewski, and Grace Irene Chapa, Nieces and Nephews; Robert(Miry)Medina, Becky(Osiel) Medina-Decker, Leon Medina, Cindy (Mark) Medina Dolence, Dawn (Dan) Powers-Friske, Darla Powers, Deanna Powers, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins that reside in the state of Texas and Mexico.
