Robert “Bob” Donald Schumann Jr. died unexpectedly in Oak Lawn, Illinois on June 13, 2025 at the age of 62. Bob is survived by his wife and best friend of 30 years Kelly (Main) Schumann of Ingleside, Illinois.
Bob was born to Marilyn (Harlow) and Robert Donald Schumann Sr. on January 4, 1963 at Fort Sherdian Naval Base in Deerfield, IL. He graduated from Waukegan East High School class of 1981. He began his career working for ESP Vending in Waukegan in 1986 and, with strong dedication, worked there for over 30 years. He enjoyed meeting new people, hearing their stories, and sharing his own. In 1989, Kelly met Bob and asked him to drive his treasured 1975 Camaro. Surprisingly, Bob agreed and they began their 37 year ride together. Over the years they moved from Waukegan to Ingleside, Illinois.
Bob enjoyed spending his time working on race cars, collecting Hot Wheels and classic cars, and working with dogs. Bob blessed many foster families and volunteers by sharing his knowledge of dog behavior, training, and experience he gained from fostering dogs through Midwest Australian Shepherd Rescue. He was always willing to pick up food and supplies, transport dogs in need, foster the broken ones, and was a wonderful ambassador at events representing the rescue. Bob was also a dedicated member and agility instructor for WI-IL Agility Group. He remained fully invested in both groups collectively for over 20 years, giving both his time and heart to ensure they were fun and successful for all involved. He will be remembered for his determination, huge heart, and willingness to put all the people and animals he loved first.
He is survived by his wife Kelly; brother Richard Schumann; sister Deborah and husband Kevin Odom; nephews Kyle Holden (wife Kelly), Logan Main (wife Olivia), Kurtis Main, Daniel Wasmund (wife Dominique), and Mathew Grace (wife Emmaline); nieces Allenha Santiago (husband Alex) and Shaney Hardin, along with all their children he greatly enjoyed spoiling and spending time with. Most of all he will be missed by Team Schumann: Tripp, Phizz, Bug, Twist, Goose, and Tagg.
Friends and family will meet for visitation on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 2PM-4PM at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Road, Gurnee, IL. The memorial service will begin at 4PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bob's name to the Midwest Australian Shepherd Rescue would be greatly appreciated.
