Sarah Elizabeth Nowotarski

Sarah Elizabeth Nowotarski, age 80, of Grayslake passed away on March 17, 2023.

Sarah was born August 17, 1942 in Valley Grove, West Virginia.  In 1963 she graduated from North East Bible College in Pennsylvania and moved to Illinois in 1967. She was noted for her specialty candy and cakes and many people ordered her special 'white chocolate' cakes.  She was involved in several church ministries throughout her life, including playing the piano and organ, Sunday school teacher, Children's Church, Christmas programs, and was well known for her Mother's Day banquets.  She served with her husband at the Russell community Church for 25 years. She also worked at Bev's World of Cakes in Waukegan for over 20 years.

Sarah was married in 1963 and had two children with Ross Tabor.  Ross died in an accident in 1970.  In 1972 she married Daniel Nowotarski and with his three children, they blended the two families together.

Sarah's survivors include five children: Terri (Steve) Allen, Dan (Chris) Nowotarski, Mike (Melody) Nowotarski, Todd (Kathy) Tabor, and Troy (Lisa) Tabor. Sarah made all the wedding cakes for the five children. She also leaves many grandchildren, many great grandchildren, a brother in law Bob VerHage, and many nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Ada Skedel (nee Beck) and a sister Bev VerHage.

A Celebration of Sarah's life will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Warren Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 1475 N. Cemetery Road (located on the northside of the intersection of Tri-State Parkway and Cemetery Rd.), Gurnee, IL 60031.  The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. The placement of Sarah's urn will follow services at Warren Cemetery Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in her memory and would be greatly appreciated.
