Shirley Duncan, 84, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on July 3, 2026. She is survived by her children Lawrence Duncan and James Duncan Jr.; her grandchildren LaKeita, Leroy, Swadel, and LaDasia; her sister Rosie Hunter; and her many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will miss her deeply.
She is preceded in passing and joins in Heaven her beloved husband James Duncan Sr., her daughter Doris Buckhalter, her parents Thomas and Lula Mae, and her siblings.
Shirley was a beautiful and vivacious woman. Nicknamed "Pretty Girl" by her great-grandchildren, she was an icon of style. She enjoyed watching the Family Feud, chicken, trying her luck at the casino, she loved the Lord, spending time with her family, and being a positive influence to her family by being sober since age of 37. She was proud of being a short order cook and co-owned the Duncan Quality Duplication audio store in Niles with her husband James for more than 30 years. A true class act, she will be sorely missed by her loved ones.
Friends and family will meet for visitation from 10AM-11AM on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Second Baptist Church, 1717 Benson Avenue, Evanston, IL. Her Celebration of Life service will then begin at 11AM. Interment to take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem, IL at a later date.
