Taulton Stephens

Taulton Carcel Stephens went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 6, 2023 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Taulton Carcel Stephens, 79, was born on April 12, 1944 to Albert and Ercelee Stephens in Birds Hills, Clarendon, Jamaica. He was the third child of eleven children. Taulton met Keturah Wynter in Jamaica and they got married on December 26, 1971. This union created four children however, he was a father to nine children. While in Jamaica he worked for Alcan and Chicago Bridge as a welder. As a welder, Taulton traveled to Canada, Venezuela, St. Croix, and the U.S. Virgin Islands for work. He then migrated to the United States in 1979 to provide a better life for his family. While living in the United States, he continued his career at Chicago Bridge. While in the U.S. he would travel to different states driving back and forth using road maps for the next job site. Once Taulton established himself, he applied for his children and wife to come to the U.S. for a better life and education. In 1998, he decided to move to Fort Lauderdale, FL. He would travel back and forth for family functions or just to pop in to visit his family. Once in Chicago he would go straight to his mother and sister house which was known as “Berwick Headquarters.” The next thing you know there would be chicken on the grill, music playing, and a celebration of some sort would be taking place.

Taulton was a father not only to his children, but his nieces and nephews too. He stepped in to fill the fatherly role, whether it was filled with talks, advice, teaching them how to drive, play dominos, ride a bike, or just joke around. He had many names that he was commonly known as: Len, Brother Len, Baba Skiddy, James Bond, Uncle Brolen, Ban, and Uncle Bundle Len. Due to his health declining, traveling became more difficult for him. However, he made sure if he was able, he would come for any family event that he was able to attend. He was a strong disciplinarian with an old school mentality. Taulton loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; whom all brought a smile to his face when he was around them. Taulton loved playing dominos, listening to music, and a smooth drink. He recently decided to get baptized at Ambassador Seventh Day Adventist Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL. During his last days in the hospital, he was unresponsive but prior to his passing he woke up singing "Hallelujah.”

Taulton is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ercelee Stephens, his brother, Milton L. Stephens, and his niece, Charmaine M. Edwards. He is survived by his wife Keturah Stephens, his sons, Donovan Campbell, Everleton (Winsome) Whyte, Calvin Stephens, Courtney (Valerie) Stephens, Floyd (Dadrey) Stephens, Maurice (Tamara) Stephens, and Shaun Stephens, his daughters Angelene (Wayne) Broadbelt, and Dominique Stephens.  He leaves behind his brothers, Arundel (Laura) Stephens, Rama (Paulette) Pennant, Sheldon (LaToya) Stephens, and Gary Stephens, his sisters, Novelette Anckle, Deloris Rodriques, Doreen Stephens, Monica (Carl) Drummond, Shellyann (Jeffrey) Barry and sister in law Hyacinth Stephens; along with, 29 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
