Glenn Zinck, 95, of Gurnee, IL, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his home.
He was born on February 8, 1927, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Herman and Theresa (nee Schienamann) Zinck. On January 7, 1950, Glenn married the love of his life, Lois Baker and they enjoyed the next 61 years together.
In February 1945, Glenn joined the U.S. Navy where he remained until September of 1967, eventually rising to the rank of Master Chief Hospital Corpsman, and receiving a Battlefield Promotion for Outstanding Action Against Enemy Forces in 1952.
After leaving the Navy, Glenn attended school while also working full time, receiving an Associate of Science Degree from College of Lake County and a Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in Healthcare Services. He worked in various health inspection roles in the Lake County Health Department and as the Village Sanitarian and Business Licensing Officer for the Village of Northbrook until his retirement. During that time, he was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health, London, England, and Treasurer and President of the North Chapter of the Illinois Environmental Health Association.
Throughout his life Glenn enjoyed memberships in many organizations, including the Fleet Reserve Association, Jaycees, American Legion, Japanese Sword Society of the United States, International Society for Japanese Philately, and he became a 32nd Degree Mason.
Glenn is survived by his children, Bruce Zinck, John (Barbara) Zinck, Brenda (Don) Shelhamer, and David Zinck; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Henry, Wallace, and Billy Zinck.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 11 a.m. until noon, with the funeral service immediately following, at Warren Funeral Home, 1475 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee, IL. Interment will be at Warren Cemetery following the service, with military honors being rendered.
