Janie Mae Chisum was born December 12, 1931, to the union of John and Stella Webster in Jessamine County, Kentucky. She departed this life on March 27, 2022, in Libertyville, IL at the tender age of 90.
Janie left Kentucky and relocated to Illinois where she and J. C. Thompson welcomed a son, George, in 1947.
Janie later met and married the love of her life, Ossie Lee Chisum. She then became the “Bonus Mom” to his children, Lee, Larry, and Inetta, a title she cherished until her death. Janie and Ossie were married for 38 years at the time of his passing in 2001.
Janie worked “down the line” for the Watts family for several years. She not only took care of their home, but also their children and she was loved and respected like she was a blood member of their family.
Janie was a faithful member of Gideon Missionary Baptist Church in Waukegan, IL until her health prevented her from attending.
Janie loved her family unconditionally and could “throw down” in the kitchen back in the day. She had a sweet spirit and was always willing to help anyone who needed it.
Janie leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted caretakers, Naomi Lewis of North Chicago, IL, and Marvin Carter of Waukegan, IL; her Bonus Daughter, Inetta Lewis of Kenosha, WI; cousins Minnie White-Wesley of Waukegan, IL, Bessie F. Johnson of Gurnee, IL, and Stella Beavers of Danville, KY; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ossie Chisum; her son George Webster; her Bonus Sons, Lee, and Larry Chisum; and her special cousin, Hazel Owens.
Rest well, Janie. You will be missed more than you know.
